About Me

Jennifer Love ~ Artist Bio

Born in the vibrant ocean community of Newport Beach, California, and raised in Woods Cross, Utah (on the Western edge of the greater Rocky Mountains), Jennifer Love spent much of her life soaking up the boundless beauty of these contrasting landscapes. Love, the elder daughter in her family, bloomed early into a gifted honors student with an inclination toward learning the Spanish Language and Art classes. Her childhood passion for ballet, which she pursued for a decade, evolved from physical expression to visual expression, shaping her creative journey over the years.

Love’s vibrant artistic ethos was first ignited in the classroom, crediting her eighth-grade art teacher as the spark that led her to pursue an enduring path in the arts. This inspiration culminated in her earning a Teaching Minor in Fine Arts, along with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and a Minor in Spanish from Westminster College of Salt Lake City.

Her time in the Westminster College Art Department, under the guidance of accomplished artists such as Don Doxey and Craig Glidden, was marked by unforgettable moments of serenity and creativity. She maintained an art scholarship during her undergraduate years, always returning to the studio for moments of calm, happiness, and a sense of freedom. The scent of charcoal and linseed oil in those art studios became catalysts for what would blossom into a lifelong love affair with art.

Post-graduation, Love began a career in the business world of television and media. But her quest for creativity inspired her to carve out a cozy corner in her first house for a studio and begin immersing herself in art workshops, which would eventually lead her to the professional art scene.

Drawing inspiration from her surroundings, Love’s art is a vivid celebration of the changing seasons, the play of light and shadow, the rhythm and exertion of Zumba® classes, the sights and sounds of the places she has traveled, and the comforting hum of familial love. Embracing the beauty in struggle, she often incorporates motifs of butterflies into her work. She also favors lush flowers, and the mischievous Kokopelli in her paintings.

Love’s creative process and techniques are as diverse as her inspirations, resulting in a unique blend of loose and defined interpretations of her subjects, and often marked by saturated color, pattern, and texture. The innovative technique of weaving paintings together, which she developed after several experiments, has become a defining element of her work, adding unique texture and life to her pieces.

Her dedication to creating distinctive and evocative art pieces has earned her multiple awards and honors, including Signature Status (Utah Watercolor Society), an Honorable Mention at the Intermountain Society of Artists Fall Show in 2011, a Juror's Award at the Utah Watercolor Society Fall Exhibition in 2015, an Award of Excellence at the Utah Watercolor Society Small Works Exhibition in 2018, and an Honorable Mention at the Utah Watercolor Society Fall Exhibition in 2019.

Over the years, Love’s art has been featured in the Utah Division of Arts & Museums Traveling Exhibit, various Utah Watercolor Society Exhibitions, Intermountain Society of Artists Exhibitions, art festivals, and the like. Her unique and mesmerizing pieces have also found a home in many private collections across the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Beyond the brush and paper, Love's personal life deeply intermingles with her profession. After her husband's diagnosis with Early Onset Parkinson's Disease, she began contributing 10% of her annual art profits to Parkinson's Disease research. Even as she shoulders multiple roles - a caregiver, wage earner, wife, mother - Jennifer finds joy in her love for creating and teaching art.

Love’s work embodies her belief in the need for beauty and balance in life. She envisions art, with its transformative power, as an essential element in our society, advocating for its inclusion in the realm of education, just as in our everyday lives.

Whether she's creating paintings in her studio, cultivating a home-garden, teaching Zumba® classes, or nurturing her loved ones, Jennifer Love paints life with bold strokes of passion and purpose, style and soul. Her journey, a testament to the many ways that art can light up our lives, promises a bright portrait of the future, full of color, movement, and texture.

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

I am inspired by the smells, sights, and sounds of the world around me. I love rich, saturated color. I love the way sunlight shines through the petals in my rose bushes and the little dancing rainbows that come through the crystal hanging in my kitchen window.

I use wet-in-wet and drybrush techniques in my watercolor paintings. I use a variety of methods to create movement and texture, including cutting up my paintings and weaving them together. I love to explore new texture making tools, mixed media, and anything that looks like it will be fun.

I am a Past President (2017-2018) and Signature Status member of the Utah Watercolor Society. Since becoming a member of the UWS in 2003, I have served in several roles including Hospitality Chair, Webmaster, Communications, Vice President, and Western Federation of Watercolor Societies Delegate. After serving as President, I became an Honorary lifetime member.

Verified Archival Materials Used

The Art Storefronts Organization has verified that this Art Seller has published information about the archival materials used to create their products in an effort to provide transparency to buyers.

Description from Merchant:

I use professional, archival watercolor paper and materials in my paintings. I prefer Arches cold press 140lb or 300lb watercolor paper, which gives me the texture I like best for watercolor. I also experiment with other painting surfaces, including YUPO. Alternative surfaces or materials will be noted in the painting description. My paint pallete consists almost excluseively of M. Graham Watercolor paint, which is made in small batches with honey as a binder. M. Graham is very high quality and gives me the vibrant color I prefer.
