About Me

Jennifer Love ~ Artist STATEMENT

My work in watercolor and mixed water media is rooted in a deep appreciation for movement, transformation, and the quiet resilience found in nature. I am drawn to subjects like butterflies, hummingbirds, wildflowers, and landscapes—each a symbol of vitality, change, and the interconnectedness of all living things. Through vibrant color palettes and layered textures, I present scenes that convey both energy and tranquility, inviting viewers to pause and notice the beauty in fleeting moments.
The tactile quality of cold press watercolor paper enhances the organic feel of my paintings, allowing me to build up transparent washes and expressive marks. I often incorporate iridescent and metallic paints, as well as experimental techniques, to evoke a sense of wonder and to reflect the ever-changing light in the natural world.
Travel and cultural exploration are central to my creative process. My experiences in European landscapes and the American West, as well as my interest in art history and cultural symbolism, inform my visual language. I am especially inspired by the idea that art can serve as a bridge—connecting people, places, and stories across time and space.
Underlying my practice is a commitment to wellness, advocacy, and personal growth. As a caregiver and wellness advocate, I believe in the healing power of movement—both in life and in art. My paintings express this philosophy, offering viewers a sense of hope, renewal, and connection.

Jennifer Love ~ Artist Bio

Born in Newport Beach, California, and raised in northern Utah, Jennifer Love spent much of her life soaking up the boundless beauty of the contrasting landscapes from Northern to Southern Utah. The oldest daughter in her family, Jennifer was an honors student with an inclination toward learning the Spanish Language and a love for Art classes. Her childhood passion for ballet, which she pursued for a decade, evolved from physical expression to visual expression, shaping her creative journey over the years.

Jennifer’s enthusiasm for creating was first ignited in the classroom, crediting her eighth-grade art teacher as the spark that led her to pursue an enduring path in fine art. This inspiration culminated in her earning a Teaching Minor in Fine Arts, along with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and a Minor in Spanish from Westminster College of Salt Lake City (now Westminster University). She later returned to Westminster for a Master of Professional Communications degree.

Her time in the Westminster College Art Department, under the guidance of accomplished artists such as Don Doxey and Craig Glidden, was marked by unforgettable moments of serenity and creativity. She maintained an art scholarship during her undergraduate years, always returning to the studio for moments of calm, happiness, and a sense of freedom. The scent of charcoal, graphite and linseed oil in those art studios became catalysts for what would blossom into a lifelong love affair with art.

Post-graduation, Jennifer began a career in the business world of television and media. But her quest for creativity inspired her to carve out a cozy corner in her first house for a studio and begin immersing herself in art workshops, which would eventually lead her to the professional art scene.

Drawing inspiration from her surroundings, Jennifer’s art is a vivid celebration of the changing seasons, the play of light and shadow, the rhythm and exertion of Zumba® classes, the sights and sounds of the places she has traveled, and the comforting hum of familial love. She often incorporates butterflies into her work. For Jennifer, butterflies represent a symbol of the beauty that can come out of life’s struggles. She also favors flowers, nature symbols, and the mischievous Kokopelli in her paintings.

Jennifer’s creative process and techniques are as diverse as her inspirations, resulting in a unique blend of loose and defined interpretations of her subjects. Her work is often marked by saturated color, pattern, and texture. The innovative technique of weaving paintings together, which she developed after several experiments, has become a defining element of her work, adding unique texture and life to her pieces.

Her dedication to creating distinctive and evocative art pieces has earned her multiple awards and honors, including Signature Status in the Utah Watercolor Society, Honorable Mentions, Juror’s Awards, and an Award of Excellence.  Her watercolor paintings are often selected to be included in the Utah Arts and Museums annual Travelling Exhibition, bringing beautiful art to underserved communities of the state of Utah.

Over the years, Jennifer’s art has been featured in various exhibitions, art festivals, and the like. Her unique and mesmerizing pieces have also found a home in many private collections across the United States, Canada, and Europe.

In Fall of 2021, Jennifer was selected to participate in the Utah Division of Arts and Museums Creative Aging Training Program with Lifetime Arts. Since then she has found great joy in teaching drawing and watercolor workshops tailored to the needs of mature adults.

Beyond the brush and paper, Jennifer’s personal life deeply intermingles with her profession. After her husband's diagnosis with Early Onset Parkinson's Disease in 2006, she began contributing a percentage of her annual art profits to Parkinson's Disease research. Even while shouldering multiple roles - caregiver, wife, mother - she finds joy creating and teaching art.

Jennifer’s work embodies her belief in the need for beauty and balance in life. She envisions art, with its transformative power, as an essential element in our society, advocating for its inclusion in the realm of education, just as in our everyday lives.

Whether she's creating paintings in her studio, cultivating a home-garden, teaching Zumba® Gold classes, or nurturing her loved ones, Jennifer Love paints life with bold strokes of passion and purpose, style and soul. Her journey, a testament to the many ways that art can light up our lives, promises a bright portrait of the future, full of color, movement, and texture.

Inspiration

I am inspired by the smells, sights, and sounds of the world around me. I love rich, saturated color. I love the way sunlight shines through the petals in my rose bushes and the little dancing rainbows that come through the crystal hanging in my kitchen window.

Techniques

I use wet-in-wet and drybrush techniques in my watercolor paintings. I use a variety of methods to create movement and texture, including cutting up my paintings and weaving them together. I love to explore new texture making tools, mixed media, and anything that looks like it will be fun.

Highlights

I am a Past President (2017-2018) and Signature Status member of the Utah Watercolor Society. Since becoming a member of the UWS in 2003, I have served in several roles including Hospitality Chair, Webmaster, Communications, Vice President, and Western Federation of Watercolor Societies Delegate. After serving as President, I became an Honorary lifetime member.

The Art Storefronts Organization has verified that this Art Seller has published information about the archival materials used to create their products in an effort to provide transparency to buyers.

Description from Merchant:

I use professional, archival watercolor paper and materials in my paintings. I prefer Arches cold press 140lb or 300lb watercolor paper, which gives me the texture I like best for watercolor. I also experiment with other painting surfaces, including YUPO. Alternative surfaces or materials will be noted in the painting description. My paint pallete consists almost excluseively of M. Graham Watercolor paint, which is made in small batches with honey as a binder. M. Graham is very high quality and gives me the vibrant color I prefer. https://mgraham.com/artists-colors/watercolors/
